For the Time Being is a spin-off of a jazz combo waltz wich the BRT (Belgian Radio & Television Broadcasting Company) commissioned me to write in 1986. I vaguely remember struggling to finish it, and being anything but satisfied with the result. Hence the title: ‘For the Time Being’. Funnily enough, it has been one of my most succesful compositions to date.
It is written (and recorded) as a vocal chart, but I recorded it as a flugelhorn feature with Brussels Jazz Orchestra in 2001 on the CD ‘Brussels Jazz Orchestra – The Music of Bert Joris’, a recording with 13 compositions and arrangements of me.
